## Objectives of the Course

A general introduction to Geographic Information Systems (GIS), applying basic GIS
analysis by using QGIS and ArcGIS, conducting real renewable energy projects /
applications in GIS.

## Course Content

Basic concepts of information systems and GIS, basic map information such as scale,
coordinate systems and map projections, components of a GIS, GIS data types, raster
and vector data models and their advantages and disadvantages, spatial data
gathering by utilizing / applying field measurements, global positioning systems (GPS),
aerial photography and remote sensing, the use of Quantum GIS and ArcGIS, ArcGIS
extensions, basic spatial, network and statistical GIS analysis and renewable energy
applications of GIS.
